Stewart, Colbert return from Vacationland with a cornucopia of cable news cameos - VIDEOS
Filed under: Other Comedy Shows, News, The Daily Show, Celebrities, Reality-Free If you're anything like me (first of all, you have my deepest sympathy), you haven't been able to sit still since The Daily Show and The Colbert Report went off the air for the holidays. It also may be because my body has absorbed more sugary fat from the holidays than one of Tyler Durden's homemade soaps.
Both shows returned to the airwaves Monday with new episodes. Both also had cable news celebrity cameos so big, no lightning fast news ticker announcing an accidental nuclear missile launch could draw your attention away...

I don't get Tim Russ on Samantha Who?
Filed under: Other Comedy Shows, OpEd, Casting, Reality-Free I like Samantha Who? I think it's a quirky and fun show with a pretty clever premise. What I don't get about it is Tim Russ' character. Don't get me wrong, I like Tim Russ. As a sci-fi geek, I think I'm pretty much required to. After all, Star Trek: Voyager came on while I was in college (I know, I'm aging myself here), and I'm glad to see him getting the work. I'm just not sure what the point of his role is.
As Frank, the doorman of the building Sam lives in, he...

Instead, you look to the...

What will you be watching this New Year's Eve and Day?
Filed under: Other Comedy Shows, Sports, Programming, TV on DVD, OpEd, Festivus, Reality-Free Being that we eat, breathe, drink, sleep, pee, poop and vomit television here at TV Squad, we like to gauge the pulse of the community once in awhile. It gives us a chance to see what others are thinking and doing as well as see what the new and continuing trends are. Plus, it fills up some white space on the site. So, the question I am tabling is this: What are you going to...

Seven retro network promos to leave you confused, delighted - VIDEOS
Filed under: Other Drama Shows, Other Comedy Shows, Late Night, Programming, Video, Celebrities, Retro Squad, Reality-Free, Cheers While ABC, NBC, and CBS have historically remained in a cutthroat battle for viewers, each network has shared one common trait: come the season of network promotional campaigns, all actors must be prepared to look absolutely ridiculous.
After the jump ... Remember this pop cultural gem (video below) that gained traction on the Net not too long ago? The sheer oddity of the clip alone forces us to ask ourselves several questions: do...

Nine least-wanted TV neighbors - VIDEOS
Filed under: Other Comedy Shows, OpEd, The Simpsons, TV Squad Lists, Reality-Free, The Dick Van Dyke Show The TV neighbor has served many useful roles over the years; some that many thought had been lost by the unrelenting sands of time.
They've become the great modern philosopher like Wilson, the evolving thinker like Bill Dauterive, the bearer of bad news like Newman, and even the court jester -- as long as you don't count one of these guys.
Not only would we not want some of them living next door to us, we wouldn't want them living. Period....

Some shows still stuck in TV's waiting room
Filed under: Other Comedy Shows, Other Reality Shows, Programming, Cancellations, Pickups and Renewals Are you wondering where some of your favorite shows like The Moment of Truth, the new American Gladiators and According to Jim are in your TV Guide? If so, please stand as far away from me as you can and try not to breathe any oxygen in my direction.
These and other shows were left out of the big four's (unless you count the CW) lineups for the new 2009 schedules, but have not been announced as officially canceled yet.
That means these shows are sitting in...

We found the guy who watched Wings! - VIDEO
Filed under: Other Comedy Shows, Programming, TV on DVD, Reality-Free Where are all the Coach fanatics? Let me hear it for my Becker obsessives! Who's got at least five syndicated repeats of Dharma and Greg in their DVR queue at all times? Anybody?
Cue the crickets.
Arthur Smith, a researcher with The Paley Center For Media, defines the aforementioned sitcoms as "middlin," or shows widely considered to be "forgettable ... programming [the] equivalent of end tables. They look fine in the room, but if they disappeared, you might not notice for a while."
Not that Coach or...

Hasn't NBC learned? Never trust a guy with the last name of Silverman
Filed under: Other Drama Shows, Other Comedy Shows, Industry, Programming, Retro Squad, Reality-Free The species known as the network executive (networkitus executivus) is unique in the world of nature. Seemingly human in stature and characterization, the network executive is unusual in the sense that its brain is seated firmly in its tushie region. As this area of the executive's body gets the least amount of blood during an average day this leads to some very strange programming decisions. Thus, the reason that viewers were entertained by Cop Rock, Who...

On the 4th day of Festivus, TV gave to me... - VIDEOS
Filed under: Other Comedy Shows, Late Night, OpEd, Saturday Night Live, The Daily Show, Festivus, Reality-Free ...Four impressions we'll be missing
When John McCain and Barack Obama became the clear front runners, no one thought anyone could pull off a decent impression of either guy. They were both bland, articulate politicians who could speak in clear, concise sentences and didn't sound like someone had stepped on their larynx with a golf cleat.
But in the zero hour, we were saved ... and not just by Sarah Palin.
These are the impressions that we're sorry to have...
