For the last couple of days, the thought keeps flitting through my head, "I need to remember to buy decaf coffee!" You see, I'm hosting the Thursday installment of my family's Thanksgiving (we're gathering again on Saturday with a slightly expanded group) and I know that several of my relatives enjoy a cup of coffee to go along with dessert at the end of the meal. However, I tend to only keep regular coffee* around and for some people, caffeine at 6 or 7 pm is a deadly.
I've also got fresh ginger, rosemary and buttermilk on my...

Bailey's with a Hint of Coffee
We're not being coy. "Bailey's with a Hint of Coffee" really is the name of the new Bailey's flavor.
So. It's sort of like an Irish Coffee (if by Irish Coffee you mean coffee and Bailey's, not coffee and whiskey), but way easy on the coffee. And no heat.
You could add this to coffee...but then why not just use regular Bailey's? You could drink it over ice, but honestly, coffee-flavor is not what we want from Bailey's. The Mint flavor? Yeah. The Caramel Creme? Delicious. Coffee? We'll take Tia Maria over this any day--or better yet, Patron XO, the...
A multitude of McFails
Filed under: Coffee, Restaurants, Raves & Reviews, America, Fast Food
So, as a followup to my story on unsnobbycoffee.com, the new campaign by McDonald's, I hit a McDonald's on New York's Upper West Side to try out some unsnobby coffee. I intended to write this there, but unfortunately, the free McWifi was a McMyth.
If you've never been to a NYC McDonald's, well, it's an experience. The low prices really throw off the normal-person-to-crazy-person ratio. There was one man in a security guard uniform (not a McDonald's employee) camped out by the soda machine, drinking various sodas one...
Snobby coffee intervention
Filed under: Coffee, Restaurants, New Products, America, Coffee shops, Fast Food
Unsnobbycoffee.com sounds like it might be something really good for your dad or uncle who still can't pronounce "grande" and thinks "frappuccino" is a made-up word (and to be fair, "frappuccino" is a made-up word, by Boston's The Coffee Connection chain which was bought by Starbucks).
Actually, unsnobbycoffee.com is the website for McDonalds' new ad campaign.
"McDonald's has made it simple and easy to get the delicious espresso drinks you crave. No crazy names or sizes. No second language required. So hang out and have some...
Raising coffee and milk to high art
The first time I encountered latte art in person was at Jim and Patty's in Portland, OR. It was December 2004 and I was out in my hometown, visiting my parents. When I visit them, I make a point of slurping down as much good Portland coffee as possible and Jim and Patty's is always one of my favorite stops. I walked up to the counter, ordered a latte and was totally mesmerized as the guy running the espresso machine made the foam resemble a fallen leaf with a couple flicks of his wrist.
These days, there are many people who spend their days...
McDonald's poser coffee commercials
Filed under: Coffee, Television/Film, Fast Food
Oh, McDonalds. I'll always love their fries, but man... So in case you haven't caught it, or almost never see commercials (like me), look above. That's the fast food chain's new ad for sure-to-be-tasty lattes, mochas, and cappuccinos under the golden arches.
Those poor women -- having to suffer through reading and a removal from reality television. Having a handle on geography is so oppressive!
I can't help but wonder: Is McDonald's just alerting people to their new products, or do they actually think that specialty coffee drinkers will be lured in by this news? Most...
Good earth: Good price, great coffee, better for the planet
As I've probably mentioned once or twice, I'm not the biggest fan of Starbucks. Even at the best of times, their comforting cafes, sweet snacks and complicated drinks give me a slight sense of unease; after all, while Starbucks feels like a warm, friendly place, it doesn't take much imagination to recast it as a 21st century opium den. Beyond that, there is also the question of price: somehow, it seems obscene to pay $4 for a cup of coffee, regardless of how much whipped cream and crumbled gingerbread is mixed into it.
AP - France and Egypt announced an initiative to stop the fighting in Gaza late Tuesday, hours after Israeli mortar shells exploded near a U.N. school sheltering hundreds of people displaced by the onslaught on Hamas militants. At least 30 Palestinians died, staining streets with blood.
